Tyler Perry is adding a new chapter to the Sistas universe with the upcoming BET+ series Divorced Sistas.

The spinoff follows five close friends as they “navigate life, love, and the challenges that come with divorce, marriage, and dating,” according to the official description.

The ensemble cast features LeToya Luckett (Greenleaf), Khadeen Indréa (Ellis Ever After), Porscha Coleman (Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!), Briana Price (Step Up: High Water), Jennifer Sears (Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Family Funeral), RonReaco Lee (Survivor’s Remorse), DeVon Franklin (Kingdom Business), Donovan Christie Jr. (The Oval), and Robert Christopher Riley (Dynasty).

While some of the actors have worked on Perry’s other projects, former Destiny’s Child singer LeToya Luckett said in a recent interview with New York station WPIX-TV, that’s not the case with her.

“I had never met Tyler before,” she explained.

Luckett said she sent in an audition tape, and got a call for an in-person meeting. But a freak snowstorm in Houston — the first in decades — nearly derailed her opportunity.

“When I was supposed to go in for my callback, it ended up snowing in Houston,” she said, adding that she couldn’t get to Los Angeles where Perry was working at the time.

“I met him a day before shooting,” Luckett said, and admitted she “cried, jumped, screamed” when she got the part.

According to a press release Divorced Sistas marks the first new show to launch under Perry’s extended partnership with BET Media Group.

“Tyler Perry has been the most incredible partner to BET – delivering record breaking hits and top series year after year,” said Scott Mills, president and CEO of BET Media Group.

The new series is Perry’s ninth show for BET and BET+ after The Oval, Bruh, All the Queen’s Men, Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, Assisted Living, Zatima, Ruthless, and Sistas.

Sistas, which is currently in its eighth season, was renewed last year after being the #1 series with Black viewers ages 18-49.

Perry, who also holds a financial stake in BET+, the subscription-based streaming service that launched in 2019, extended his agreement with the network through 2028.

Divorced Sistas premieres the day of the BET Awards on Monday, June 9, on BET and starts streaming on BET+ Tuesday, June 10.
