Kirk Franklin says he’s had no contact with his oldest son Kerrion, since a private phone call between the two went public in March.
Kerrion uploaded the call to Instagram, and Franklin can be heard saying: “I will break your neck, ni–er. Don’t you ever disrespect me.” Franklin posted a video apology on Twitter later that day, saying his family has had a “toxic” relationship with his 32-year-old son for years.

During an appearance on Wednesday’s episode of The Real, Franklin addressed the leaked call.
“That was just a revelation of what’s been going on for years,” the gospel legend said. “We’ve been in a very painful place for years, but I will say this, even though my son chose to try to expose me publicly as a father, I will never expose him publicly as a son.”

The Real co-host Loni Love asked Franklin, “Have you talked to him?”
Franklin replied, “No. Once again, you would have never known our family issues if he hadn’t chose to do it, so I still continue to keep it at that place because who in the world, as hard as parenting is, should ever have to talk about their parenting publicly?”
Love followed up with: “But do you think he was trying to reach out to you?” Franklin responded, “Oh no, no, no.”
