CNN has hired former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms as its newest political commentator.
The politician and attorney shared the news with her followers Monday on Twitter.
“I am thrilled to officially announce that I have joined @CNN as a Political Commentator. As a @FAMU_1887 student, I applied for the coveted VJ program at @CNN and didn’t get in,” she tweeted. “To now join the team nearly 30 yrs later is a reminder that a dream deferred is never a dream denied.”

On her Instagram page, Bottoms posted a photo of the tweet with a caption about timing.
“We often wonder why things don’t happen on our time. Perhaps if it did, we wouldn’t be prepared, we couldn’t appreciate the opportunity, or even, maybe we just aren’t ready to show up as the best version of ourselves,” she shared, ending the caption with “Can I get an Amen?!”
Neither Bottoms nor CNN released an official date on when she will begin appearing on air.
Before receiving her law degree, Bottoms graduated with a degree in communications and a concentration in broadcast journalism from Florida A&M University.
She was elected the mayor of Atlanta in 2018 and served from 2018 until January of this year. She announced in May 2021, that she would not seek re-election as Atlanta’s mayor.
