Kandi Burruss is ready for the next chapter of her career, and for now that doesn’t include The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

The singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur said Sunday, Feb. 4, she won’t return for season 16 of the Bravo series.

“I decided I’m not coming back this year,” Kandi told Variety on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards in downtown Los Angeles.

“It’s been 14 seasons, and they allowed us to sit around for a little too long, but during that time I had started working on a lot of other things, and I got some nice big projects coming soon, so I’m super excited about those things,” she continued.

Kandi joined RHOA in season 2 and is the longest-running housewife on all the Bravo franchises.

“It’s just like, after you really have time to think, and a friend of mine was like, ‘Why do you keep doing it?’ And I was like, ‘Well, I think because I’ve just been doing it for so long, it feels weird to think not to do it?’ So I was just like, ‘You know what? I’m going to take a break, I’m going to take a moment… I’m not coming back this year,’” she said Sunday.

Last month Kandi criticized Bravo for taking too long to let the cast know who would be asked back for the new season.

“They still haven’t told everybody who they’re bringing back,” Kandi said during a recent live Q&A with fans. “They are tripping.”

She added, “They act like people don’t have a life. People got lives around here. We gotta make plans for other things.”

Season 15 of RHOA debuted in May 2023. In addition to Kandi, the cast included Kenya Moore, Shereé Whitfield, Drew Sidora, Marlo Hampton, and Sanya Richards-Ross. Monyetta Shaw returned as a friend.

The ratings fell throughout the season and fans have been calling for changes to the show.
