Justin Timberlake was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated Monday night on Long Island, New York.
The arrest happened after the “Cry Me a River” singer had dinner at a hotel in Sag Harbor then reportedly got behind the wheel, police told People magazine.
The pop star was reportedly following friends home when he caught the attention of local police officers in the affluent Hamptons community. “Nobody was hurt,” a police source told the outlet.
Timberlake, 43, was charged with driving while intoxicated. As of the morning of Tuesday, June 18, he remained in custody and was expected to make a court appearance later in the day.
The singer is currently on the road for his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, which kicked off in April and runs through December. According to his website, the next tour stop is in Chicago this weekend, with shows at the United Center on June 21 and June 22.
Known to fans as the “Prince of Pop,” the Memphis, Tennessee native got his start after competing as a child on the competition series Star Search in the 1990s.
He landed a spot on Disney Channel’s The All New Mickey Mouse Club, where he worked with future bandmate JC Chasez. The two later became the lead vocalists of NSYNC.
The group was one of the best-selling boy bands of all time, with sales of over 34 million albums, according to the website bestsellingalbums.org.
Timberlake then launched a successful solo career, with his first albums Justified in 2002 and FutureSex/LoveSounds in 2006, both going multiplatinum.
As an actor, he’s had roles in the films Alpha Dog, The Social Network and the Trolls franchise. The singer and actor also became a member of the “Five-Timers Club” in 2013, when he hosted Saturday Night Live for a fifth time.
“It is great to be back hosting Saturday Night Live for fifth time,” he said in his monologue at the time.
