Two weeks after John Boyega revealed he’d been trying in vain to reach his They Cloned Tyrone co-star Jamie Foxx after his mystery hospitalization, Boyega says Foxx has “finally picked up the phone.”
“He’s doing well. And then, you know, we just giving him the privacy, and we can’t wait for his return,” Boyega told People magazine Tuesday night at the Los Angeles premiere of the film.
The Star Wars actor, 31, went on to share a few details about the call.
“I gave him the well-wishes directly. I gave him all the well-wishes. So I’m just gonna be waiting until he comes back out here. So take your time, Jamie. We love you, bro,” he said.

At a June 14 screening of the film in Miami, Boyega said he’d been unable to reach Foxx.
“I’ve been calling, I’m just gonna keep on calling,” he said. “He better pick up. Come on Jamie!”
Foxx was admitted to a hospital in Georgia on April 11.
His daughter Corinne Foxx shared the news in a since-deleted Instagram post and told fans, “We wanted to share that my father Jamie Foxx experienced a medical complication yesterday. Luckily due to quick action and great care he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time.”
Jamie Foxx was in Atlanta filming the Netflix movie Back in Action with Cameron Diaz when he became ill.
Production was temporarily shut down, but continued with stunt doubles and body doubles being used in place of Foxx.
They Cloned Tyrone is the Oscar winner’s first movie to debut since he was hospitalized.
The film also stars David Alan Grier, J. Alphonse Nicholson and Kiefer Sutherland, and centers on a government conspiracy to clone people in a Black neighborhood.
The sci-fi thriller will be released Friday, July 21, 2023 on Netflix.
