After over a year of talking about going hit-for-hit on Verzuz, Jermaine Dupri and Sean “Diddy” Combs are finally ready to battle it out.
Dupri made the announcement at the One Musicfest in Atlanta over the weekend, saying he and Diddy are set for a So So Def vs. Bad Boy showdown.
“The So So Def–Bad Boy Verzuz is happening,” the hitmaker told the audience, according to video posted on Twitter by DJ First Class.
Twitter users filled the post with replies, including “Yes!” and “Going to be nuts!”

The announcement came after Diddy blasted Triller, in response to Verzuz founders Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s $28 million lawsuit against the company, which acquired the music battle franchise in 2021.
Diddy said fellow producers Swizz Beatz and Timbaland had his full support and he wanted to do a battle with Dupri on their own because of the Triller lawsuit.
“Since we ain’t fu–in’ with Verzuz no more ’cause they fu–in’ around with our boys, we don’t need to be going against each other,” Diddy said on Instagram Live in August. “Let’s come together and do that Bad Boy-So So Def in Atlanta. It ain’t no Verzuz, it’s just hit-for-hit.”

Since then, Swizz and Timbaland have settled their differences with Triller and Dupri says he’s ready to hit play on the battle. Although he didn’t say when.
In September 2021, Dupri seemingly challenged the Bad Boy Records mogul to battle, writing on Twitter: “Somebody let @Diddy know I’m @thegarden right now ! And he gone need some training for me.”
Diddy initially shot down the idea, tweeting: “You ain’t got enough hits. I’ll smash you with just Biggie n Mary. But I do have the utmost respect for you as a musical legend – Dre the only one who can get in the ring with me.”
But now that the battle is happening, fans predict it will be a “banger.”
