Jennifer Hudson delivered a heartfelt tribute to the late Whitney Houston at the American Music Awards.
During the AMAs 50th Anniversary Special on Oct. 6, Hudson performed the classic “I Loves You, Porgy,” which Houston performed on stage at the American Music Awards in 1994.
Hudson also belted out one of Houston’s most popular songs, “I Will Always Love You” from her 1992 film, The Bodyguard with Kevin Costner.

The EGOT winner’s tribute gained praise from fans on social media, who felt her voice was “perfect to honor” Houston, who was a 22-time AMA winner.
“The musical director did an excellent job not only complimenting Jennifer’s voice to make it her own but at the same time still honor Whitney’s legacy with New intonations and musical expressions!” commented one viewer under the YouTube video of the performance.
“THIS is ONE of Jennifer’s BEST performances EVER. Whitney would have been pleased with this one,” someone else wrote.
“Jennifer this was spectacular – the intonation was spot on for ‘I love, Porgy’- and the dynamics just soared. The vocals were soft supple and sweet when they needed to be,” said another viewer.
Other performers who took the stage at the AMAs 50th Anniversary Special included Kane Brown, Mariah Carey, Stray Kids, Brad Paisley, Chaka Khan and Sheila E.
The AMAs were held at LA Center Studios in downtown Los Angeles, and aired on CBS at 8 p.m. ET.
