Jared Leto is denying sexual abuse allegations made by multiple women who told a new BBC documentary they were teenagers when they were allegedly targeted by the actor.
“I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life,” the Suicide Squad star said in a statement to the media Wednesday, following the release of the film Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret.
The Oscar-winning actor, who is also lead singer of the band Thirty Seconds to Mars, called the allegations “absolutely and categorically false.”
Leto has starred in several blockbuster films including Masters of the Universe (2026), Morbius (2022), and Blade Runner 2049 (2017), and won an Oscar for his performance in the Dallas Buyers Club (2013). He frequently appears at runway shows and is considered a fashion icon.
But a clip from the BBC documentary says, “Behind the fame and glamour, dark rumors about his behavior have been circulating for decades.”
Leto, 54, faces serious accusations from four women using the pseudonyms “Isabel,” “Alex,” “Clara” and “Etta.”
The women said the alleged incidents happened between 2002 and 2016, when they were teenagers and Leto was in his 30s and 40s.
The first alleged encounter took place in 2002 when “Isabel” was 17. The then-teenager said she met Leto while working at a store in Las Vegas. She claimed the Louisiana native sexually assaulted her in a motel bathroom.
“Clara” said she was 17 years old when Leto allegedly had sex with her in California after the actor “shrugged off” a conversation about the state’s age of consent. She said she was sent a nondisclosure agreement (NDA), which she refused to sign.
“Alex” said the actor allegedly threatened to sexually assault her in a hotel room when she was 19.
“Etta” alleged Leto groomed her and made repeated sexually explicit phone calls to her when she was 16 years old. She also claimed the actor suggested they have sex.
The BBC spoke with a total of 10 women for the documentary, with nine of them sharing their stories publicly for the first time.
The British media organization said it corroborated the women’s accounts with friends and family members who were told about the incidents at the time.
BBC producer Jessica Sartenaer said the outlet began documenting the allegations a year ago, after a DJ in Los Angeles named Allie Teilz shared social media posts describing Leto as “Hollywood’s most persistent predator.”
The television producer noted “a deluge of women” responded to the posts, alleging they had been victimized by Leto.
