Summer Wheaton, a social media influencer known to her followers for promoting wellness and self-empowerment, has been identified by authorities as the driver of a Mercedes-Benz involved in a fatal car crash on July 4 in Malibu, California.
Earlier this week, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department released Wheaton’s name and alleged she caused the collision, according to The Malibu Times. The sheriff’s department said Wheaton was behind the wheel of the Mercedes when it struck another vehicle around 10:20 p.m. Thursday on Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) near Carbon Canyon.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2019 Mercedes-Benz, traveling eastbound on Pacific Coast Highway, crossed the center median for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a 2020 Cadillac traveling westbound,” the sheriff’s department said in a news release obtained by Urban Hollywood 411.

The man killed in the collision was a 44-year-old ride share driver named Martin Okeke, according to published reports.
Wheaton and the passenger in Okeke’s vehicle were transported to an area hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s department said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The Malibu Times reported investigators are looking into whether Wheaton attended a so-called “Red, White and Bootsy” party the night of collision at Nobu restaurant on PCH.
“Tables at the event ranging from $10,000 to $75,000 all came with multiple bottles of liquor. There were no tickets advertised that did not include bottle service,” the outlet reported.
Several celebrities attended the gathering, including Mike Tyson and Tyga, who were shown in pictures posted on Instagram by event sponsor Bootsy Bellows nightclub.
Wheaton, 32, describes herself as a “wellness advocate” in the bio of her Instagram page. She has more than 100,000 followers on the platform, but her page is now private.
Her LinkedIn profile remains active and says she previously worked as a fitness model and is an entrepreneur.
In a 2018 interview with Bauce magazine, Wheaton said she was a former JET Beauty, and was working as a real estate agent to the stars at the time of the interview.
“So many people ask me how I broke into real estate, and how they can,” she said. “I don’t like to tell people this is how you break into real estate because it’s so different for everyone. But I can tell you that persistence, consistency, tenacity – a thick skin are the tools you need for success in any business or industry.”
