‘Hustlers’ Struts Past $100 Million Mark at Box Office

Hustlers, the heist thriller about a group of strip club employees who band together to fleece their male clients, crossed a major milestone this weekend at the domestic box office.

The film starring Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu passed the $100 million mark, and now has a six week total of $101.8 million, according to Comscore.

The drama from STX Films opened on September 13, and has pulled in $125.4 million worldwide.

The cast includes Keke Palmer, Julia Stiles, Lili Reinhart, Madeline Brewer, Cardi B, Lizzo, and Trace Lysette. The film hails from writer-director Lorene Scafaria, and is inspired by a New York Magazine article titled “The Hustlers at Scores.”

In addition to starring in Hustlers, Lopez produced the film along with Elaine Goldsmith Thomas, Jessica Elbaum, Benny Medina, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.

Also this weekend, the Angelina Jolie-starring Maleficent: Mistress of Evil pulled in an estimated $36 million for a first place finish in North America.

While the Disney release opened in the top spot, it fell far below expectations, after Maleficent debuted with $69.4 million when it launched in 2014.

Joker, now in its third week, took second place with $29.2 million, bringing the Warner Bros. film’s
domestic total to $247.2 million.

Zombieland: Double Tap, about a group facing off against evolved zombies, debuted in third place with $26.7 million. The Sony Pictures release stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin.

Elsewhere, The Addams Family took fourth place with $16 million. Gemini Man starring Will Smith and directed by Ang Lee, rounds out the top five with $8.5 million in its second weekend.

Hustlers came in ninth place after six weeks on the charts.
