Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul. has praise, worship and a super-sized scandal.

The megachurch mockumentary-style comedy stars Sterling K. Brown and Regina Hall as a troubled megachurch pastor and his ambitious wife.

Focus Features released the trailer for the film on Thursday, which shows Hall and Brown trying to “clarify” some things about their troubled church.

Amid allegations of misconduct, Pastor Lee-Curtis Childs (Brown) tries to revitalize his church after it’s forced to temporarily close. Most of the responsibility falls on his wife, Trinitie Childs (Hall), who is willing to do anything to reclaim her throne as first lady. Together the couple set out to rebuild their congregation and make a massive comeback.

Initially filmed as a short by sisters Adamma and Adanne Ebo, the movie was made into a feature and became a breakout hit at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.

Adamma Ebo wrote and directed the big screen version. She also served as a producer alongside Hall and Brown. Additional producers include Adanne Ebo, Rowan Riley, Amandla Crichlow, Kara Durrett, Jessamine Burgum, Matthew Cooper, and Daniel Kaluuya.

Focus Features, Peacock, and Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions acquired the worldwide rights to the comedy out of Sundance, the companies announced. The deal was worth about $8.5 million, Variety reported in February.

Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul. premieres in theaters and the Peacock streaming service on Sept. 2.
