Hunter Killer — a submarine action film about an American mission to stop a Russian coup — took a beating at the weekend box office courtesy of Halloween and several other holdovers.

The newly released thriller, starring Gerard Butler, Gary Oldman and Common, opened with a lukewarm $6.7 million from 2,728 theaters across North America, according to Box Office Mojo.

That added up to an average $2,438 per location and a fifth place finish.

Critics were also underwhelmed, giving the film a 36 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, with such descriptions as “generic,” “silly” and “sinks to the bottom.”

While Hunter Killer received a tepid response from moviegoers, Halloween continued to scare up ticket sales.

The horror sequel from Blumhouse Productions and Universal Pictures held onto the top spot for a second straight weekend, this time bringing in $32 million.

Playing in 3,990 locations, the thriller averaged $8,031 per theater.

Since it opened on Oct. 19, the Jamie Lee Curtis-led fright film has earned $126.6 million domestically and another $45.6 overseas.

Elsewhere at the box office, A Star Is Born held onto second place with $14.1 million. That brings the Bradley Cooper-directed drama starring Lady Gaga to a four-week domestic total of $149 million.

Venom remained in third place with $10.8 million.

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween held steady in fourth with $7.5 million, and Hunter Killer rounded out the top five.
