Friends gathered in South Pasadena Wednesday evening to remember Vanessa Marquez, a former ER actress who was fatally shot by police officers last week.
Just before the sun set, several people placed flowers around a large tree in front of Marquez’s home, where she was killed on Aug. 30.
Many of the floral arrangements contained notes, including one that read: “Vanessa, I have always loved you and I will always. Terry.”

Marquez, who played nurse Wendy Goldman on ER, was fatally shot during a welfare check.
Authorities said the 49-year-old actress was uncooperative as officers tried to negotiate with her.
After about 90 minutes, she allegedly pulled out a BB gun and pointed it at officers, prompting them to respond with gunfire, authorities said after the shooting.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was brought in to investigate the fatal shooting.
The sheriff’s department said Marquez appeared to be “suffering from mental health issues” when officers responded to her home.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has also launched an investigation into the case.
South Pasadena city officials issued a statement two days after the shooting, urging the public to be patient as the case is investigated.
“We believe our officers acted appropriately under a tragic set of circumstances,” city manager Stephanie DeWolfe said in the statement. “We are asking the public to respect the investigative process and allow the Sheriff’s Department and D.A.’s office to gather and release the facts.”
Marquez was best known for her roles on ER and the 1988 film Stand and Deliver.
