Freddie Jackson, an iconic R&B singer who topped the charts in the 1980s, has shared unfortunate news with his followers on social media.

The “You Are My Lady” and “Rock Me Tonight” artist posted a video on Instagram Sept. 3, revealing he has been diagnosed with kidney disease.

“After a lot of thought and reflection, I’ve come to a point where I feel I’m ready to talk about a recent chapter in my life. I have been diagnosed with kidney disease. This journey has had its challenges but I’ve decided to face it with openness and resilience,” the 67-year-old singer shared.

Kidney disease “can affect your body’s ability to clean your blood, filter extra water out of your blood, and help control your blood pressure,” according to WebMD.

The illness can lead to fluid buildup in the body, causing swelling and shortness of breath. Without proper treatment, such as dialysis or a transplant, it eventually becomes life-threatening.

Jackson wrote in the caption to his video that he isn’t battling the disease alone since he has his “close friends, manager, music family, and fans” to help him keep going.

The two-time Grammy nominee has partnered with the National Kidney Foundation to help raise awareness and support those who have the same condition.

“As I take this step, I’m turning my personal experience into a platform for greater understanding and advocacy. With your help, we can work toward better awareness and improved outcomes for everyone with kidney disease,” continued the singer.

Jackson ended the video by telling fans he appreciates their support. “Thank you for your encouragement, your love, and your support. It means more to me than I can express. From the bottom of my heart, I love you,” he said.
