Eve appears to have it all – a successful music career, a job on a hit talk show and a four-year marriage.

But the rapper and co-host of The Talk says there was a time in her life when she turned to drugs and alcohol to numb her pain.

The subject came up on Tuesday’s episode of The Talk as the ladies discussed Willow Smith’s recent admission on her mom’s web series, Red Table Talk, that she used to cut herself after the success of her single Whip My Hair.

Eve, 39, said she also struggled with self-harm.

“At a time in my life, at a point in my life, I’d gone through, and like [Willow] says, ‘a dark hole,’” she revealed. “I call it my ‘dark hole’ period, my dark period.”

Eve said she hit rock bottom after her UPN sitcom Eve was canceled in 2006.

“I was out of a toxic relationship, I didn’t have a TV show, I didn’t have a record deal. I was just kinda like, what is happening with my life,” she explained.

The Grammy-winning rapper said she turned to alcohol and drugs.

“I started drinking, a lot. I started drinking, and drinking, and drinking because I didn’t want to deal with my emotions,” she said. “I didn’t have anybody to really talk to. I was even popping Xanax and drinking, to numb my pain.”

At the time, she said she didn’t realize she was “harming” herself. A DUI arrest in 2007 was a wake-up call.

“I got a DUI, and it took my DUI to wake me up because I had to wear one of those ankle things,” Eve explained. “And I didn’t want to because I knew it would force me to deal with my ‘S’, my stuff, and thankfully, I did and was able to get healthy.”

Eve topped the charts with such hits as Who’s That Girl. She joined The Talk in November.
