Relatives of rapper DMX will hold a prayer vigil Monday evening at the hospital in New York, where he is on life support after suffering a heart attack.
In an email Sunday to the Associated Press, the family asked friends and fans to lift DMX up in prayer.
“On Friday night, April 2nd, 2021, our brother, son, father, and colleague DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, was admitted to White Plains (NY) Hospital, facing serious health issues,” the email said. “We ask that you please keep Earl/DMX and us in your thoughts, wishes, and prayers as well as respect our privacy as we face these challenges.”

The prayer vigil will take place outside White Plains Hospital in suburban New York at 5 p.m.
“He’s quite ill,” the “What’s My Name” rapper’s attorney Murray Richman said in a statement.
“I’m very sad about it, extremely sad. He’s like my son,” Richman added. “He’s just a tremendous person, tremendous entertainer, tremendous human being. And so much to offer, so much to say. Not the run-of-the-mill rapper. A person of great depth.”
TMZ reported Saturday that the heart attack was triggered by a drug overdose. Although Richman said he could not confirm the music star had overdosed.
DMX has been open about his struggles with substance abuse, and checked himself into rehab in 2019.
