After getting called out on social media, the Daytime Emmys issued an apology for showing a photo of the wrong actress during the In Memoriam segment.

As the video segment played during Friday night’s broadcast, The Young and the Restless actress Marguerite Ray’s name appeared on screen, but it was placed over a picture of Y&R alum Veronica Redd — who is still alive. Ray died in November at age 89.

Both actresses are African American and played housekeeper Mamie Johnson on the long-running CBS daytime drama. Ray originated the part from 1986 to 1990, while Redd portrayed Mamie from 1990 to 2004.

After fans pointed out the mistake, the Daytime Emmys apologized in a three-post thread on Twitter.

“During last night’s #DaytimeEmmys telecast, the In Memoriam segment included an incorrect picture in our remembrance of the late Y&R actress Marguerite Ray,” the first tweet said.

“We deeply regret this error and intend to re-edit the sequence for subsequent digital releases once a replacement image can be appropriately licensed,” the show added. “We sincerely apologize to the Ray family — as well as to Veronica Redd, whose image was inadvertently used instead. Each of these Daytime icons deserved better from our Academy.”
