There’s a casting change underway at Beyond The Gates.
In the first shakeup since the CBS soap launched in February, actor Maurice Johnson has been replaced by Keith D. Robinson in the role of Dr. Ted Richardson.
Richardson is the husband of Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson (Daphnée Duplaix), the oldest daughter of Vernon (Clifton Davis) and Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie).

Johnson became known to fans as “Turtleneck Ted” because of the turtleneck sweaters Dr. Richardson wore on the show.
Among the actor’s previous credits were roles on Daytime Divas, Good Girls, and Chicago Fire.
Johnson frequently shared behind the scenes details on X (formerly Twitter). His last new post was on March 20, when he shared several photos from the set and wrote: “Sorry to disappoint the loyal #TurtleneckTed fans yesterday. Just loving on my wife in my crewneck…[purple hearts].”
On March 21, Deadline broke the news that he was being replaced.
Since then, Johnson has been retweeting fans who say they’re disappointed he’s leaving the show.
The outlet reported Keith D. Robinson’s first episodes will air in May, although it did not give a reason why the role was recast.
Robinson previously appeared on the TV series Half & Half, Over There, Saints & Sinners, A Million Little Things, and in the films Dreamgirls, This Christmas, and Dear John.
Beyond The Gates marks the first daytime drama with a primarily Black cast in three decades.
The show is developed in a collaboration between CBS Studios and the NAACP. Production began in November in Atlanta, Georgia.
Michele Val Jean, an award-winning writer on The Bold & the Beautiful, General Hospital, and Ambitions is the writer, showrunner and executive producer.
