Victoria Monét, Usher and Tyla were big winners Sunday night at the 2024 BET Awards.
South African singer Tyla won the awards for best new artist and best international act.
Victoria Monét picked up the BET Her award and the video of the year trophy for “On My Mama.”
SZA (who did not attend the ceremony) won the award for best female R&B/pop artist, while Usher was named best male R&B/pop artist and honored with the lifetime achievement award after a star-studded tribute performance.
In an emotional acceptance speech, Usher told the audience: “This hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it. I want to thank each performer and acknowledge every detail because those moments that become legacy are about having fun and creative expression.”
Killer Mike picked up the album of the year trophy for Michael.

Among other highlights of the ceremony, host Taraji P. Henson opened the show with a version of Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us,” with new lyrics calling out Hollywood studios over equal pay.
Will Smith performed his inspirational new single “You Can Make It,” with Kirk Franklin, Chandler Moore, and the Sunday Service Choir by his side.
Ms. Lauryn Hill took the stage with her son YG Marley. At the end of her performance, the legendary songstress brought out Fugees bandmade Wyclef Jean to close the show with their hit 1995 single “Fu-Gee-La.”
Other performers included Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, Ice Spice, Tanner Adell, Sexyy Red, and Muni Long.
The Usher tribute featured Childish Gambino, Keke Palmer, Summer Walker, Coco Jones, Marsha Ambrosius, Chlöe, Tinashe, Teyana Taylor, Victoria Monét and Latto.
The awards aired live on BET from the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
