Barbarian scared up an estimated $10 million in ticket sales, to debut at the top of the box office on one of the slowest weekends of the year.

The R-rated horror film from writer-director Zach Cregger played in 2,340 locations across North America for a per theater average of $4,274, according to Comscore.

The low-budget fright fest centers on a woman staying at an Airbnb who discovers the house she rented isn’t what it seems. The film stars Georgina Campbell, Justin Long, Bill Skarsgård, and Jaymes Butler.

Barbarian’s better-than-expected haul came after it received an excellent 92 percent positive score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics describing the Disney/New Regency release as “sinister,” “smart” and “wildly entertaining.” Analysts had only expected the film to earn $5 million to $6 million.
