TV One’s Unsung returns this weekend with behind-the-scenes stories from R&B artist Lyfe Jennings about his criminal history and his rise to fame.

In a preview clip, the “Must Be Nice” singer details an argument he had in 2008 with Joy Bounds, the mother of his first child, that led to him kicking down a door and leading police on a high-speed chase.

“I was out at the bar and had a few drinks, then I went to my cousin’s house, because that’s there I thought my kids were,” he says. “I kicked in the door, like ‘where my kids at?’ I didn’t go in. I just smashed down the door.”

He then allegedly fired shots in the air and hopped in his car, with police officers in pursuit.

“I’m in my drop, and I was like ‘Man, I don’t feel like dealing with you all’s s–t today. So I’m just not stopping,” the singer says. “I hit the gas, turned the music up. Next thing I know, my car smashed into a tree.”

Jennings was charged with criminal trespass, discharging a firearm near the highway, D.U.I. refusal, attempting to elude police, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (which is a felony).

He’ll have more details about the case and his injuries on Unsung.

Immediately after the episode, Uncensored sits down with Family Matters star Jaleel White.

In a clip from the episode, the actor discusses his career as a child star and explains why he’s now glad Bill Cosby rejected him for a role on The Cosby Show.

“Obviously not having gotten the Cosby Show was a huge blessing in my life, but I never like to say that like it wasn’t a blessing for Malcolm [Jamal Warner],” he says. “It just wasn’t meant for me.”

White rose to stardom playing Steve Urkel on Family Matters in the early 1990s.

He was initially cast in a guest role on the ABC sitcom, but he said the powers behind the show liked him so much that they hired him for a full season, then kept him on until the show ended in 1998.

But he told Uncensored the original adult stars — Jo Marie Payton, Reginald VelJohnson, and Telma Hopkins — were not thrilled because they all “entered this show with the idea that this is my vehicle to break out.”

Instead, the kid became the breakout star. White spills more behind the scenes details Sunday on Uncensored at 10 p.m. on TV One. The episode airs after Unsung 9 p.m. ET/8C.
