Oscars 2026: ‘Sinners’ Dominates With Record 16 Nominations

Sinners will be the film to beat at the 2026 Oscars, after picking up a record 16 nominations, including best picture.

When the nominations were announced early Thursday, Jan. 22, Ryan Coogler’s vampire thriller dominated the competition, with Coogler receiving individual nominations for directing and best original screenplay. Michael B. Jordan, who played twin brothers “Smoke” and “Stack” in the film, received a best actor nod.

Wunmi Mosaku picked up a supporting actress nomination for her performance in the thriller.  While Delroy Lindo received a surprise supporting actor nod after being ignored by the Golden Globes and the Actor Awards. Ruth E. Carter received a nomination for best costume design.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another followed with 13 nominations, including best picture.

Anderson received nominations for directing and adapted screenplay. Leonardo DiCaprio picked up a best actor nod. Benicio del Toro and Sean Penn were nominated for best supporting actor and Teyana Taylor received a supporting actress nod.

Frankenstein, Marty Supreme and Sentimental Value followed with nine nominations each. Hamnet received eight nods. Train Dreams, Bugonia, F1, and The Secret Agent picked up four nominations each.

The Secret Agent star Wagner Moura made history as the first lead actor nominee from Brazil.

Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman announced the nominations live from Beverly Hills.

Winners will be revealed during the 98th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 15, 2026. The ceremony airs live on ABC.
