It’s officially a go for the long-awaited Snowfall spinoff on the Wanda Bell and Leon Simmons characters.

FX ordered the spinoff to series, with Gail Bean and Isaiah John set to reprise their roles from the original drama, the network announced Monday, Nov. 3.

The two will be joined in the cast by Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and Simmie Sims III.

The untitled spinoff comes from producer Malcolm Spellman (Empire and Bel-Air) and Snowfall producers Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson

Set in 1990s Los Angeles, the drama will pick up shortly after the end of the original series, as a recovering addict tries to take West Coast rap mainstream.

But in the background, the city is a hot zone as “gang wars erupt and record labels move to exploit hip hop culture for their own gain,” the official description reads.

“This new series takes us back to one of the most formative eras in music with the birth of the West Coast rap revolution,” Nick Grad, president of FX Entertainment, said in a statement.

“We worked with Malcolm Spellman on the documentary series Hip Hop Uncovered and he has encyclopedic knowledge of this material. This is a breakout starring role for Gail Bean and, as always, Isaiah John is terrific along with the ensemble cast,” Grad added.

As Urban Hollywood 411 previously reported, the spinoff was announced in 2023.

Malcolm Spellman was brought in to write the pilot and serve as showrunner if the project got picked up as a series, which it just did.

Snowfall was created by the late John Singleton, alongside Eric Amadio, and Dave Andron.

The crime drama explored the crack cocaine epidemic in 1980s South Central L.A.

The series ran for six seasons on FX from 2017 to 2023.

Damson Idris led the cast as Franklin Saint, a young drug kingpin in L.A. He was joined by Angela Lewis, Amin Joseph, Carter Hudson, Isaiah John, Devyn A. Tyler, Tamara Taylor, DeVaughn Nixon, and Sergio Peris-Mencheta.

On the original show, Wanda was a former member of Franklin’s crew, whose life was seemingly destroyed by crack. But she began to pick up the pieces and married Leon in Ghana.

Their new show is produced by FX Productions, the spinoff will premiere in 2026 on FX and Hulu.
