Simon Guobadia “regrets” marrying Porsha Williams, and says his divorce from the Real Housewives of Atlanta star felt like a “coup.”

“Getting engaged in 30 days … who does that? I was out of my goddamn mind to have done that. Of course, I’m paying dearly for it,” he said in an interview with Page Six.

Guobadia, 61, accused Williams of being a gold digger. The Nigerian businessman went on to claim he was “vulnerable” while in the process of divorcing her former co-star, RHOA alum Falynn Pina, when Williams slid into his DMs.

“I was targeted from day one for financial reasons,” he claimed. “When I filed for divorce from my previous ex-wife, [Porsha] was in my DM praying for me. I think I was in a vulnerable position at that time, and I entertained it. So it just kind of snowballed from there.”

Williams, 44, filed for divorce in February 2024, after just under 15 months of marriage.

Guobadia left the U.S. following their split, and regularly shared posts on his Instagram page from Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.

At the beginning of this year, he was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents after returning to the U.S. for a divorce hearing.

ICE held him for nearly four months before he was deported back to his native Nigeria.

He had immigration problems for years following an arrest and guilty plea to bank and credit card fraud in the 1980s, and multiple deportations, as previously reported.

Meanwhile, in a cover story with People magazine earlier this week, Porsha said she and Simon started having problems when she discovered “complex” issues with his legal status. She told the outlet she hired an immigration attorney in January 2024, to try and sort things out.

“We had a real serious conversation because, being a supportive wife, I wanted to deal with this head-on,” she said. “I got it spelled out completely by an attorney who had been in immigration for 30 years. And my conclusion was: ‘I don’t want you to travel.’ I begged for him not to leave the country. That was not honored.”

She insisted Simon refused to listen to advice and continued his jet-setting lifestyle. A few weeks later, she said the two argued to “a point of no return.” She filed for divorce days later.

Guobadia claimed in his new interview he had no idea why the marriage ended.

“I kept asking, ‘Why did you file for a divorce?’ And she wouldn’t say anything,” Guobadia said. “This felt like a coup. I was totally blindsided.”

The divorce was finalized on June 11. Simon appeared in court via Zoom from Nigeria, as a Georgia judge ruled to uphold the couple’s prenuptial agreement.

“She’ll receive $40,000 a month in alimony for the length of the marriage, which was 14 months,” he told Page Six, noting that the total alimony amount is $560,000.

“She gets to stay in the [marital] house — all expenses paid, including the mortgage — for up to 36 months. And if she chooses to own the home, she would have to refinance the property in her name and give me 50% equity in the home,” he added.

According to published reports, Williams also gets to keep a Rolls-Royce he gifted her, and she’ll have her legal fees paid.

Guobadia said with “1,000%” certainty, the settlement “is going to be appealed.”

In 2024, AfroTech reported Guobadia had a net worth of $40 million after founding SIMCOL Group, an international petroleum supply company with offices in Atlanta and the United Arab Emirates.

The Nigerian entrepreneur has been married four times, but he said the split from Williams was the absolute worst.

“I’ve had prenups in previous relationships, and I’ve honored those prenups without reservation,” he said in his interview. “This time around, I’ve chosen to challenge in court — all the way to the Supreme Court if I have to.”
