Geoffrey Owens got a shoutout from 50 Cent on Instagram as the former Cosby Show star continues his comeback.
The executive producer of the Starz Power franchise posted a meme Tuesday with the caption: “Yeah. The under dog back on top. @iamgeoffreyowens GHOST.”
The meme shows a side-by-side photo of Owens working at Trader Joe’s a few years ago and in his role on Power Book II: Ghost. 50 Cent added, “I am very happy about this! S/O to everyone involved that made this happen! He’s doing a phenomenal job!”
Owens responded back on Instagram by reposting the same meme and captioned the post: “I’m so grateful to 50 Cent not only for the opportunity on ‘Power”/“Ghost,’ but for his encouragement and support. Thank you, sir.”
In 2018, a shopper snapped a photo of Owens at a Trader Joe’s to show the actor had fallen on some hard times since playing Elvin Tibideaux on The Cosby Show in the late 1980s and early ’90s.
Once Owens received attention after the Trader Joe’s picture went viral, he thanked fans for their support during an interview with Good Morning America.
“It’s really overwhelming in a good way,” Owens told GMA. “I really want to thank everybody out there: family, friends, Hollywood community and the general public for the incredible support, the amazing support, and positivity that they’ve shown for me. It’s quite astounding, it’s very encouraging.”
Since then, Owens has landed several acting jobs, including work on the Power spinoff as Daniel Warren, Tariq’s attorney.
The second season of Power Book II: Ghost premiered on Nov. 21. The show has now been renewed for a third season.
