2023 BET Hip Hop Awards to Mark So So Def 30th Anniversary With Star-Studded Reunion

The BET Hip Hop Awards will celebrate the 30th anniversary of So So Def Recordings with a reunion featuring some of the label’s biggest names.

Grammy-winning producer and songwriter Jermaine Dupri will take the stage along with Bone Crusher, Bow Wow, Da Brat, Dem Franchize Boyz, and more artists to celebrate three decades of music from the label, BET said Wednesday. Ludacris is also slated to join the celebration.

Dupri founded So So Def in Atlanta in 1993. Key acts on the label included Xscape, Da Brat, Jagged Edge, Bow Wow, Anthony Hamilton, Bone Crusher, Youngbloodz, Dem Franchize Boyz, and J-Kwon.

The awards will continue the music industry’s celebration of 50 years of hip hop by bringing together artists from the past and present — with performances by Offset, DaBaby, Fivio Foreign, GloRilla, Sexyy Red, and a deejay and producer tribute featuring Kid Capri, Kool DJ Red Alert, Scott Storch, and Spinderella.

Producers Timbaland and Swizz Beatz will present this year’s cypher in a hip hop celebration deejayed by DJ E Feezy and DJ Runna, with lyricists Bun B, Cassidy, Foggieraw, Gloss Up, Lady London, Lola Brooke, Scar Lip, and Symba going head-to-head.

Fat Joe returns as host and co-executive producer for a second consecutive year.

21 Savage and Cardi B lead this year’s nominations, with 12 nods each. Drake follows with nine nominations. Burna Boy, DJ Khaled, J. Cole, Coi Leray, GloRilla, and Jay-Z also picked up multiple nominations.

The 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards tape in Atlanta, on Tuesday, Oct. 3 and will premiere Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 9 PM ET/PT on BET.
