The shooting came as a hearse carrying Hussle’s body passed through South L.A. allowing fans to say goodbye following the late hip-hop star’s memorial service at Staples Center.

During the three-hour service, Hussle was remembered for his devotion to his family, as well as his efforts to stop gang violence in South L.A. and to bring jobs to the economically-depressed area.

Hussle’s longtime girlfriend Lauren London, his parents and rapper Snoop Dogg spoke. A letter was also read from former President Barack Obama.

There were musical tributes throughout the service, with Stevie Wonder, and R&B singers Marsha Ambrosius, Anthony Hamilton and Jhené Aiko performing.

Hussle, real name Ermias Asghedom, was fatally shot on March 31 outside his Marathon Clothing store in South L.A. Two other men were wounded in the attack.
