Bishop T.D. Jakes is recovering after he appeared to suffer a seizure during his Sunday sermon at The Potter’s House in Dallas, Texas.

Jakes, 67, was sitting on a stool and dabbing sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief, when he became ill.

As he concluded his hour-long sermon, he slurred his words, began shaking, and dropped his microphone.

Church elders rushed to the stage to assist the megachurch pastor. They surrounded him, grabbed his arms, and prevented him from falling to the floor.

The Potter’s House issued a statement on Sunday afternoon, saying Jakes is currently in stable condition.

“During today’s service, Bishop T.D. Jakes experienced a slight health incident and received immediate medical attention following his powerful hour long message,” the statement read.

“Bishop Jakes is stable and under the care of medical professionals. The entire Potter’s House family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from the community,” the statement continued.

The Potter’s House is a 30,000-member nondenominational church, its website says.

Jakes founded the church in Dallas in 1996. It now has additional sites in Frisco, Texas; Fort Worth, Texas; and Denver, Colorado.

Jakes also runs TDJ Enterprises, which publishes his books and produces faith-based films, including the 2004 feature, Woman Thou Art Loosed, and Lifetime’s Seven Deadly Sins franchise. He additionally hosts a religious program on The Word Network.
