Simon Cowell is hospitalized after breaking his back in an accident while trying out a new electric bike, according to published reports.

The accident happened Saturday at Cowell’s home in Malibu, California. The America’s Got Talent executive producer and judge was rushed to an area hospital and underwent surgery.

On Sunday, a source told Page Six Cowell fell “right on his back,” and was in surgery for “six hours.”

“He had to have a big surgery, he’s got a number of breaks and has had to have a metal rod put into his back,” the source said.

He was at home with his girlfriend Lauren Silverman, their six-year-old son Eric, and her 14-year-old son Adam, when he fell off the bike.

Cowell, 60, is a record executive and has also served as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, The X Factor and American Idol.

He is scheduled to tape the first live show on season 15 of AGT this Tuesday on the Universal Studios lot in Universal City, California.
