Moses “Shyne” Barrow will no longer be one of the “Bad Boyz” of the Belize House of Representatives.

The rapper-turned-politician was defeated in his re-election bid during the country’s general elections on March 12, according to Channel 5 Belize.

Barrow lost his Mesopotamia seat to fellow United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate Lee Mark Chang, the outlet reported.

After the votes were tallied, the “Bad Boyz” rapper conceded defeat.

“The people have spoken. Congratulations to Lee Mark Chang, he’s now the new area representative of Mesopotamia, and I wish him well,” Barrow said. “[Voters] made a decision to go in another direction, and I respect that.”

The results showed Chang won 601 votes, People’s United Party’s (PUP) candidate Lawrence Ellis followed with 503 votes, and Barrow trailed with 318 votes. A total 1,422 ballots were cast out of 2,253 registered Mesopotamia voters.

Barrow served as opposition leader in the House of Representatives, and had aspirations of becoming the country’s prime minister.

His defeat came just four months after the former Bad Boy recording artist released a Hulu documentary about his life in November 2024.

The film titled The Honorable Shyne offered “an intimate look at Shyne’ personal evolution as he navigates fame, incarceration and a return home to Belize, where he finds new purpose and strives to lead his country to a brighter future,” according to the official description.

In the documentary, Shyne talked about the 1999 shooting at a New York City nightclub that left three bystanders injured, and resulted in the then-rapper being sent to prison.

“I was absolutely set up to be the fall guy,” he said in the film.

Shyne and Sean “Diddy” Combs were arrested and charged after the shooting. Diddy was found not guilty of all charges, while Shyne was convicted of assault, reckless endangerment and gun possession. He served almost a decade and was deported back to his homeland of Belize.

Ahead of the film’s release, Shyne did a U.S. press tour and told Tamron Hall his former mentor Diddy “destroyed” his life.

“The power of Diddy, the entertainer, the person that dominated pop culture, was so loud for so long that no one hears myself and my mom, and my supporters when we were crying about our lives being destroyed by Diddy,” he said on Tamron Hall in November.

“I always said that Diddy snitched on me, he threw me under the bus, and that I was the sacrificial lamb,” he added.

Still, decades after his conviction, Shyne reunited with Diddy and performed with the now-jailed music mogul at the 2022 BET Awards when the mogul received a lifetime achievement honor.
