Guillebeaux had prior convictions and served time in prison for selling drugs and for robbery.
Investigators are looking into the possibility that Guillebeaux’s death was part of a murder-for-hire plot, Fox 5 New York reported.
Remy, 44, released a statement through her attorney saying she is committed to her son.
“We stand by Jayson’s innocence and hope the NYPD will conduct a complete and thorough investigation to reveal the truth. This has undoubtedly been a trying time for Remy Ma and her family,” the statement read.
The rapper, born Reminisce Smith, previously appeared with her son on the VH1 reality series Love & Hip-Hop: NY. They were also featured on a VH1 wedding special that documented the rapper preparing to tie the knot with fellow music artist Papoose, whose real name is Shamele Mackie.
A native of New York, Remy Ma is known for her songs “Conceited,” “Whuteva,” and “All The Way Up” with Fat Joe.
She previously served six years in prison following a conviction for shooting an acquaintance during a fight over money outside a New York nightclub in 2007.
