Nicki Minaj says she wants more information on the COVID-19 vaccine and she won’t be pressured into getting a shot.
The hip hop star took to Twitter Monday to explain why she missed Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards and was sitting out Monday’s Met Gala.
“They want you to get vaccinated for the Met. If I get vaccinated it won’t [be] for the Met,” Minaj tweeted. “It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one.”

The “Megatron” rapper, 38, also revealed in a tweet thread she tested positive for COVID while preparing for the VMAs.
“I was prepping for vmas then I shot a video & guess who got COVID? Do u know what it is not to be able to kiss or hold your tiny baby for over a week?” she wrote. “A baby who is only used to his mama?”

She went on to say fellow rapper Drake caught COVID in a so-called breakthrough infection. “Drake had just told me he got covid w|THE VACCINE tho so chile,” she tweeted.
Minaj also shared a claim about a man in Trinidad becoming impotent after getting vaccinated.
“My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine cuz his friend got it & became impotent. His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied,” she tweeted.

Thousands of Twitter users responded to Minaj’s post, with many urging her to stop spreading misinformation.
“My friend got it and he turned orange and now has only three fingers. Moved in with some dude named Bert. Also goes everywhere with a rubber ducky,” Hollywood publicist Danny Deraney mockingly responded.
Added writer and comedian Crissle West: “Your cousin’s friend prolly just picked up an STD but please keep going.”

MSNBC host Joy-Ann Reid criticized Minaj on her show “The Reid Out” Monday and said: “For you to use your platform to encourage our community to not protect themselves and save their lives… As a fan, I am so sad that you did that.”
Minaj responded to a clip from Reid’s show on Twitter, writing: “This is what happens when you’re so thirsty to down another black woman (by the request of the white man), that you didn’t bother to read all my tweets. “My God SISTER do better” imagine getting ur dumb ass on tv a min after a tweet to spread a false narrative about a black woman.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), testicular swelling is not a side effect of the COVID-19 vaccines available in the U.S. The CDC does say the vaccines have side effects, including pain in the arm where it was injected, headache, fatigue, muscle pain, chills and fever, and nausea.
