Moviegoers fell hard for Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
The Tom Cruise action adventure soared to the biggest opening in franchise history after taking in an estimated $61.5 million since Friday, according to Box Office Mojo. That topped the $57.8 million box-office debut of Mission: Impossible II back in 2000.

Fallout was even bigger abroad, taking in $92 million overseas for a total worldwide haul of $153.5 million.
The sixth installment of the franchise didn’t just get a stamp of approval from moviegoers, critics love it too. The thriller, which opened 22 years after Cruise’s first turn as Ethan Hunt back in 1996, scored a spectacular 97% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Paramount Pictures release features an all-star cast, with Henry Cavill, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Angela Bassett, Michelle Monaghan and Alec Baldwin joining Cruise.
In their latest mission, Hunt and his team race against time after an operation goes wrong.
The film opened in 4,386 theaters across North America, and hauled in a massive $14,022 per location average.
Coming in behind Fallout is Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again with a $15 million take.
Last week’s leader, The Equalizer 2, slips to third place with a $14 million haul.
Rounding out the top five are the animated films – Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation with $12.3 million and Teen Titans Go! To the Movies with $10.5 million.
