Police did not mention Ziering’s name in the release, but the details lined up with the attack on the actor.

Ziering, 60, was assaulted in broad daylight while driving along the 6800 block of Hollywood Boulevard on Dec. 31, 2023.

The “Sharknado” actor and his daughter were sitting in traffic, when “four to five members of a minibike gang” rode down the street around 3 p.m., according to police.

“The confrontation began between the victim and one of the minibike riders over possible damage to his vehicle. Three to four additional minibike riders jumped in and assaulted the motorist,” the LAPD said in a statement.

The neighborhood where the brawl broke out is home to restaurants, shops, cinemas and the Dolby Theatre — where the Academy Awards take place. The area is frequently filled with tourists and families.

Bystanders recorded the confrontation and the video quickly went viral. Police said the videos and information provided by witnesses “were crucial to the investigation.”

The footage obtained by TMZ showed Ziering being punched and kicked as he fought back against the attackers. He then ran down the street as passersby and vendors looked on. One of the bikers could be seen swinging an object at Ziering and narrowly missing him.

According to the LAPD, the bikers “vandalized the motorist’s vehicle while his ten-year-old child remained in the front seat.” No one was seriously injured.

Following the attack, Ziering released a statement on his Instagram page and called the attack “unsettling.”

“I experienced an alarming incident involving a group of individuals on mini bikes. While stuck in traffic, my car was approached aggressively by one of these riders leading to an unsettling confrontation,” the actor said. “In an attempt to assess any damage I exited my car. This action, unfortunately, escalated into a physical altercation, which I navigated to protect myself.”

He urged police to do more to address crime in Los Angeles.

“This situation highlights a larger issue of hooliganism on our streets and the need for effective law enforcement responses to such behavior,” he said. “As a citizen and a parent, I find it unacceptable that groups can freely engage in this kind of behavior, causing fear and chaos, while the response from authorities seems insufficient.”

The actor also called on local leaders to do more to address “lawlessness.”

“We must address the underlying issues that lead to such disruptive behavior and ensure that our streets are safe for everyone,” he wrote. “I urge city officials and law enforcement to take decisive action against such lawlessness and provide the necessary resources to prevent future occurrences.”
