Michelle Williams has voluntarily checked herself into a mental health facility.
The former Destiny’s Child singer, who has been open about her struggles with depression, took to Instagram Tuesday to let her followers know she was seeking help.
“For years I have dedicated myself to increasing awareness of mental health and empowering people to recognize when it’s time to seek help, support and guidance from those that love and care for your wellbeing,” Williams wrote. “I recently listened to the same advice I have given to thousands around the world and sought help from a great team of healthcare professionals.”
“Today I proudly, happily and healthily stand here as someone who will continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for the betterment of those in need,” she continued. “If you change your mind, you can change your life.”
The 37-year-old singer began treatment at a mental health facility near Los Angeles a few days ago, a source told TMZ.
After the members of Destiny’s Child left the group to embark on solo projects in 2006, Williams went on to a successful gospel music career.
Earlier this year, she got engaged to Chad Johnson, a pastor and life coach who has also worked as a chaplain for several professional sports teams.
