Michelle Williams is stepping back from her role in the Broadway musical, Once On This Island.

Williams — who was set to play Erzulie in the Tony award-winning show based on the 1985 novel, My Love — is taking a leave of absence on doctor’s orders.

“Effective immediately, Michelle T. Williams has been advised by her medical doctors to take a leave of absence from performing,” the show’s rep said in a statement to the media on Wednesday.

They added: “As a result, the singer/actress will not continue in the Tony Award-winning Broadway production of Once on This Island. She joined the cast on November 30 in the role of goddess Erzulie and was warmly welcomed back to Broadway and into the show.”

Actress Cassondra James, Williams’ understudy, will take on the role until Dec. 26. After that date, singer Lea Salonga will play Erzulie through Jan. 6.

The Fearless performer hasn’t addressed the news yet, but she did take to Twitter Wednesday to share an inspirational message. “I’ve made a vow to myself that I will not allow fear to the get the best of me any longer!” she wrote.

Williams’ leave of absence from the show comes less than a week after she broke off her engagement to pastor Chad Johnson.

The Destiny’s Child alum announced the split via her Instagram Stories Friday, writing: “I guess I still remain single! Things didn’t work out.”

Williams and Johnson met in March 2017 and announced their engagement in April of this year.
