Martin Lawrence was honored Thursday in Los Angeles with the 2,753rd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“If I can pass one thing on to those coming after me, it would be to board your dream bus with confidence, grace and humility and ride it until the wheels fall off,” Lawrence told the crowd gathered on Hollywood Boulevard.

The actor and comedian was joined by fellow comics Steve Harvey and Tracy Morgan, along with actress Lynn Whitfield, who co-starred with him in the 1996 film A Thin Line Between Love & Hate, and Tichina Arnold who worked with Lawrence on the sitcom Martin.

Lawrence has been in the entertainment business for over three decades. He got his start doing stand-up comedy in the Washington, D.C. area.

After competing on Star Search, the actor and comedian landed his first acting job on What’s Happening Now! in the late 1980s. He went on to host Def Comedy Jam on HBO, and was approached about doing his own TV show which became the hit sitcom Martin.

The series aired on FOX from 1992 to 1997, and was the flagship show on the network’s Thursday-night lineup, drawing millions of viewers away from NBC’s “Must See TV” programming block.

Lawrence’s film credits include Nothing to Lose, Life, Blue Streak, Big Momma’s House, Black Knight, National Security, and the Bad Boys movies with Will Smith. Bad Boys 4 is currently filming.

Lawrence’s star is located at 6918 Hollywood Blvd, and was awarded in the television category.
