Grammy-winning gospel singer Erica Campbell will lead the cast of Lifetime’s upcoming faith-based film, Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery.
Premiering June 6, the film explores themes of morality, temptation and betrayal, Lifetime said in a press release Monday.
Campbell plays “Cassie,” a Christian feminist influencer and bestselling author, who is forced to deal with the consequences after she seeks comfort from a man outside of her marriage.
CJ Williams (All the Queen’s Men) plays Cassie’s husband and business manager “Daniel.” Trai Byers (Empire) rounds out the main cast as “Troy,” the other man in the love triangle.
The trailer shows Cassie being introduced to her new bodyguard and quickly falling into his arms. “Taking care of you is more than just a job, it’s my pleasure,” the bodyguard tells her as they embrace.
The situation quickly unravels when Cassie lands at the center of a blackmail plot and is confronted about an extramarital affair.
As the walls close in, she “must navigate the treacherous waters of public scrutiny while fighting to salvage her marriage, career, and the trust of her devoted followers,” according to the official description.
The cast also includes Jasmine Guy as an empowerment speaker, and former NBA star Matt Barnes, who makes his movie debut as a police detective.
Barnes currently hosts the “All The Smoke” podcast and runs All The Smoke Productions.
Guy will next be seen in Netflix’s A Different World sequel series from executive producers Felicia Pride and Debbie Allen.
Campbell previously had a role in Pride: A Seven Deadly Sins Story, a 2023 Lifetime movie produced by T.D. Jakes, Derrick Williams, and Shaun Robinson.
The new film comes from Releve Entertainment and Swirl Films. Executive producers include Dr. Holly Carter, Angela Shin, Keesha Brickhouse, Eric Tomosunas, Ron Robinson, and Errol Sadler. Patricia Cuffie Jones directs from a script by Nneka Grestle.
Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery premieres Saturday, June 6 on Lifetime at 8/7c.
