Gospel singer Le’Andria Johnson says she is “still growing,” following her arrest for public intoxication.

Johnson was taken into custody on Monday, Dec. 16 at 2:42 p.m. in downtown Greenville, South Carolina, according to charging documents obtained by the Greenville News.

The Grammy-winning singer was charged with public intoxication and having an open alcohol container on a public street.

Officers responded to BrickTop’s restaurant where Johnson was said to be screaming at patrons and “causing a disturbance.” She left the restaurant and walked a short distance. When officers located Johnson, she was screaming profanities at an unidentified man, the charging documents said.

Police reported Johnson smelled of alcohol, slurred her speech, had trouble standing, and was holding a cup that contained a beverage that smelled of alcohol.

Johnson paid a bond of $257.50 and was released Tuesday from the Greenville County Detention Center.

Spiritual teacher, author, and recording artist Larry Reid posted a video from the singer to his Instagram page on Dec. 17.

The video included a message from Johnson and a copy of her booking sheet.

“To all of my family, my friends, and my supporters. Thank you so much for your continued prayers and love. I do see all of the text messages and all of the phone calls. I’m just taking this time now to just, really just, whoosah! And if y’all know me, like you know me, you know that this is a daily walk, and this has been a daily walk for me for some time now. And I’m yet still growing. So, to Larry Reid, thank you so much for waiting to contact me, to get it from me, as opposed to everybody else, just putting out what they want. Thank you, I appreciate you and your fans. I’m going to get through this,” Johnson said.

Johnson, 41, rose to stardom after winning season 3 of the BET singing competition, Sunday Best.

She went on to release a No. 1 album titled The Awakening of Le’Andria Johnson.

In 2012, she won a Grammy Award in the Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance category for the single “Jesus.”

Since then, the singer has faced a series of challenges and has admitted to abusing alcohol.

In 2019, she appeared on a two-part episode of OWN’s self-help series, Iyanla: Fix My Life, to address a struggle with alcohol addiction.

The episode looked at how her behavior was “jeopardizing both her career and her life.”

Host and life coach Iyanla Vanzant began to lose patience with Johnson and told her she was speaking “like a true alcoholic,” as previously reported. Vanzant encouraged Johnson to go to an AA meeting and seek professional help.
