John Legend has signed on to join The Voice for the show’s sixteenth season.
The singer-songwriter-producer will take over the seat held by Jennifer Hudson on season 15 of the singing competition, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“I’m thrilled to join the coaches of The Voice. I’ve been a guest and mentor on the show multiple times, and I’m so excited to discover talented singers and help them make the most of their gift. I hope the world is ready for #TeamJL,” Legend said in a statement.

The ten-time Grammy winner will join returning coaches Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. Carson Daly is set to continue as host. Hudson previously coached season 13, but will not return for season 16 in the spring.
Sources told THR Legend approached NBC about joining The Voice and the network made it happen.
“John Legend is a one-of-a-kind musician and producer with remarkable skills that are beyond measure,” said Paul Telegdy, president of the alternative and reality group at NBC. “His multidimensional career and incredible talents provide a repertoire that will excite and inspire our artists.”
This past weekend Legend won an Emmy Award for producing the network’s television musical Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.
With his win at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, he now has the rare distinction of being an EGOT, after previously taking home his Grammys, an Oscar and a Tony.
Legend is also up for a Emmy for playing Jesus in the musical. The award will be announced Monday night at the Primetime Emmys.
Season 15 of The Voice premieres Sept. 24.
