Just over a year after Jess Hilarious was named co-host of “The Breakfast Club,” the comedian has gone public with her frustrations over the job, her co-workers and management at the New York-based radio program.

In an Instagram Live on Tuesday, March 18, she shared her feelings with fans saying the environment at the show is messy behind the scenes “like a high school.”

Jess, 33, joined DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God on the nationally-syndicated morning show in January 2024, after a months-long search to replace longtime co-host Angela Yee, who left to launch her own show.

A month later, Jess revealed she was expecting her second child, according to BET.com.

In her Instagram Live on Tuesday, the Baltimore native said she didn’t like the way she was treated when she returned from maternity leave and fill-in host Loren LoRosa was still there.

“You try coming back to work and a motherf–er is right there at your desk and ain’t nobody telling you shit,” Jess said.

Likely adding to her frustration, fellow comic Corey Holcomb recently said Jess only got the job because of her “social media presence,” while former TMZ senior news producer LoRosa is “talented.” His comments trended Monday, with some people on social media agreeing with what he said.

By Tuesday evening, Jess had seemingly had enough.

“I had a baby. In this industry and what I’m doing, ain’t no right time to have a baby,” she said about announcing her pregnancy a month after landing her new job. “I don’t regret when I got pregnant. I don’t.”

Jess said things were awkward when she returned to work and met Loren.

“No, I did not like her when I first came back. I didn’t. Even down to how I was supposed to return. We had a whole plan on how I was supposed to come back. When I walk in the room, she never left. First thing she said is not, ‘How [is] your baby doing?’ No, that was Envy… the first thing that she talks about is the shit that was in the comments,” Jess explained.

Despite everything that happened, Jess said she “learned” that Loren is not “spiteful.”

Jess also said she was the one who requested her name be removed from the “Jess with the Mess” news segment and instead have Loren’s name added to it.

“The girl is great at what she do. ‘Loren With the Latest’ is flawless, yes it is… she got that,” Jess said, adding that she “fought” for the name change.

“I don’t know how long it’s gonna take for a motherf–er to confirm that,” she said.

She then brought up the criticism of her work on social media and said she doesn’t feel like her co-workers have her back.

“We’re supposed to be a team in that b–ch. Not one person, not one person comes to my defense at all… with this online shit,” she said, adding that she now understands why Angela Yee left “The Breakfast Club.”

“It’s a reason that lady wanted to leave that show. I don’t know how she did that shit for 13 years,” Jess said.

“I’ve been quiet a lot,” she said. “I’m not the villain.”

The way Jess sees it, the “The Breakfast Club” is the issue.

“That shit is ran like a high school,” she explained, “The problem is communication.”
