Janice Freeman, a singer who appeared on Season 13 of The Voice, died Saturday in Pasadena, Calif., her family confirmed in a statement on Facebook. She was 33.

“We are heartbroken to report that Janice Marie Freeman passed away on March 2, 2019 from an extreme case of pneumonia and a blood clot that traveled to her heart,” said the statement on Freeman’s official Facebook page. “While at home, her husband Dion performed CPR until the ambulance arrived. Freeman struggled with health problems and battled cervical cancer, lupus and meningitis.

“She was constantly in pain – literally, for years – but was sure she would conquer it all. She just kept on fighting,” her husband Dion said.

During her blind audition on The Voice, coaches Jennifer Hudson and Miley Cyrus turned their chairs as Freeman performed Imagine Dragons’ Radioactive. She told the coaches about her health problems and brought the audience to tears.

Freeman decided to join Cyrus’ team and reached the top 11 on the NBC singing competition. After leaving the show, she remained friends with the pop star.

In January 2018, the up-and-coming singer said Cyrus helped her financially while she was dealing with health issues.

“She found us placement until we found permanent housing, gave me the deposit, covered me for 6 months so I can get on my feet!” Freeman tweeted.

Cyrus posted a tribute to the late singer on social media. She captioned a picture of a rainbow on her Instagram story: “Thank you @janicefreeman…for everything. This represents you perfectly.”

Hudson honored Freeman by posting a clip of her audition on Instagram along with the caption: “The voice of hers we got to hear and the bit of life we got to watch her live was a blessing and inspiration to us all!”

Freeman is survived by her husband, her 12-year-old daughter Hannah, her mother Janice, and her siblings.
