Janelle Monáe Sings About ‘The Fight For Democracy’ in New Song ‘Turntables’

Janelle Monáe is using her platform to call for change.

The singer-songwriter has released the new single “Turntables,” which includes a political message saying: “Got a new agenda, with a new dream/I’m kickin’ out the old regime/Liberation, elevation, education.”  The song is included in the new documentary All In: The Fight For Democracy, about voter suppression in the United States.

The film was directed by Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning filmmaker Liz Garbus and Oscar-nominated and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Lisa Cortés. Producers include Garbus, Cortés, Dan Cogan and former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams. The movie is scheduled for release in select theaters on Sept. 9, and will stream on Amazon, starting Sept. 18.

This is Monáe’s first new song since 2018’s Dirty Computer. The songstress posted details about the new track on her Instagram page, while sharing the cover art with fans. “A song from me to you,” she captioned the post and urged fans to watch the film.
