Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz got a little help in Michigan by none other than Jane Fonda.
The legendary actress and activist traveled to Ann Arbor earlier this week, and went door-to-door, encouraging residents to vote for the Democratic ticket.
The “Kamala For Michigan” X account shared video on Sept. 17 of one interaction showing Fonda hugging a surprised resident.
“Makes me want to cry,” the unidentified woman told the actress as she fought back tears.

Fonda later explained to the woman that she had never canvassed for a presidential candidate before.
“This is such an important election,” Fonda said. “I’m doing everything that I can. I’ve never done this before. I had an ex-husband who came from Royal Oak, Michigan. I’ve done it for him, but I haven’t ever done it for the president. But this is most important. We have to get them elected.”
The ex-husband Fonda referred to was Students for a Democratic Society leader Tom Hayden. The two were married from 1973 to 1990, and while they were together, Hayden served in the California State Assembly.
During her visit to Michigan, the Oscar-winning actress also spoke to a crowd at a campaign office about the election’s importance in fighting climate change.
“We can’t lose four years,” Fonda said, according to MLive. “We have to cut our emissions in half by 2030. We’re going in the wrong direction, and we’re going to be galloping in the wrong direction if Trump gets elected. We cannot allow that to happen.”
