Green Book made an impressive debut this weekend at the specialty box office.
The racial road trip film from Universal Pictures opened in limited release, earning an estimated $312,000 from 25 theaters across North America.
That averaged out to $12,480 per theater in cities including New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, Las Vegas and San Bernardino, Calif.
The film is co-written and directed by Peter Farrelly (Me, Myself & Irene), and stars Viggo Mortensen (Captain Fantastic) and Mahershala Ali (Moonlight).

Based on the true story of New York hustler Tony Lip (Mortensen) and world-class pianist Don Shirley (Ali), the film follows the two as they travel to the Deep South in the 1960s for Shirley’s concert tour.
The title of the film comes from an actual publication that listed the few hotels and restaurants that were safe for African-American travelers.
The movie has received a positive 83 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics describing it as “witty,” “hugely entertaining” and “complex.”
It also won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival in September.
Green Book expands nationwide on Nov. 21.
