The fourth season of Godfather of Harlem will bring new faces, new threats, and a new war.

MGM+ and series co-creator Chris Brancato released the trailer on Tuesday, March 11. The video shows civil unrest on the streets of Harlem in the 1960s. “Harlem is in shambles” a voiceover in the trailer says.

Local crime boss Bumpy Johnson (Oscar winner Forest Whitaker) vows to invest in the community after drawing inspiration from his late friend Malcolm X (Jason Alan Carvell).

“I’m trying to build something for my people,” Bumpy says. But he must also deal with a new rival in the drug trade.

“There’s a new kid in town, a country boy looking to make a name for himself,” Bumpy says.

That new kid is up-and-coming gangster Frank Lucas, played by new cast member Rome Flynn (How to Get Away with Murder and Chicago Fire).

Bumpy and Frank are soon at odds.

“Bumpy Johnson gotta learn, nobody plays Frank Lucas,” Flynn says.

The Italian Mafia also wants to shut Bumpy down, adding to his growing problems.

According to the official description, “Bumpy Johnson (Forest Whitaker) continues his bloody war for control of Harlem against New York’s Mafia families, while contending with the arrival of gangster Frank Lucas (Rome Flynn). After Malcolm X’s (Jason Alan Carvell) tragic assassination, Bumpy must also grapple with his daughter Elise’s (Antionette Crowe-Legacy) involvement with the Black Panthers.”

The series is produced by 20th Television. Executive producers include Chris Brancato, the late Paul Eckstein, Forest Whitaker, Nina Yang Bongiovi, James Acheson, Markuann Smith, Ray Quinlan, Michael Panes, and Stephen Schiff. Swizz Beatz serves as executive music producer.

Godfather of Harlem season 4 debuts April 13 on the MGM+ linear channel and streaming service.
