George Clinton is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to celebrate his six-decade career.

The funk music pioneer will be honored with the 2,769th star on the Los Angeles landmark on Jan. 19.

“George Clinton is a highly influential songwriter, record producer, and performer known for his contributions to funk music,” Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said in a statement. “His distinctive style, flamboyant persona, and psychedelic stage presence have made him a beloved figure and a pioneer of the genre.”

Speakers at the ceremony will include Clinton’s longtime friend, Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers; songwriter Janie Bradford; and Civil Rights attorney Ben Crump, who is working with Clinton to regain the rights to his music.

Clinton, 82, grew up in New Jersey and started his music career with barbershop doo-wop ensemble, The Parliaments, in the late 1950s. The group landed a hit song in 1967 with “(I Wanna) Testify.”

Clinton founded the legendary music collective Parliament/Funkadelic (P-Funk), which combined acid-rock guitar with sound effects, dance beats, and bass lines.

The collective is known for hits, including “P-Funk (Wants to get Funked Up),” “Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker),” “Flash Light,” “One Nation Under a Groove,” “Aqua Boogie,” and Clinton released his 1982 solo single “Atomic Dog,” which has been featured in the films 102 Dalmatians, Trolls World Tour, and Menace II Society. Snoop Dogg also sampled the track on the single “Snoop Dogg (What’s My Name Pt. 2).”

Clinton was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. He continues to tour and is working on new music.

He joins the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday, Jan. 19 at 11:30 am PT. The star will be located at 6752 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of the Musicians Institute.
