The true crime limited drama series unfolds with the infamous story of an armed robbery on the night of Muhammad Ali’s historic 1970 comeback fight.

This event not only changed one man’s life, but it also helped transform Atlanta into the “Black Mecca.”

The series is based on the Will Packer-produced iHeartPodcast “Fight Night.” Packer executive produces the series alongside Kevin Hart and Sabrina Wind.

As previously reported, Hart stars as “Chicken Man,” a hustler trying to level up. The cast includes Samuel L. Jackson as “Frank Moten,” Taraji P. Henson as “Vivan Thomas,” Don Cheadle as “JD Hudson,” and Terrence Howard as “Cadillac Richie.”

Chicken Man throws an afterparty with the country’s wealthiest to celebrate the much-anticipated boxing match. But when the celebration turns into a heist, Chicken Man is suspected of orchestrating the robbery. To prove his innocence, he must convince J.D. Hudson (Don Cheadle), one of the first Black detectives in Atlanta’s desegregated police force.

Dexter Darden guest stars as “Muhammad Ali.” Chloe Bailey, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Lori Harvey, and Sinqua Walls also have roles on the series.

Created, written, and executive produced by Shaye Ogbonna (Penguin, The Chi), Jason Horwitch (Echo 3, The Calling) is co-showrunner and executive producer.

Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Empire) co-executive produces and directs four episodes, reuniting with Henson and Howard after working together on Empire.

Additional executive producers include Bryan Smiley and Mike Stein for Hartbeat, Conal Byrne and Carrie Lieberman for iHeartPodcasts, Jeff Keating of Doghouse Pictures, along with Lars Jacobson, Erika L. Johnson, and Mike Daniels.

Produced by Universal Television LLC, a division of Universal Studio Group, the series was filmed at Assembly Studios in Atlanta.

Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist begins streaming Sept. 5 on Peacock.
