Serena Williams surprised viewers Sunday night by appearing in Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl LIX halftime show.
The tennis legend was seen Crip-walking in a blue and white tennis outfit while Kendrick performed his Drake diss song, “Not Like Us.”
Serena’s appearance had a lot of hidden meaning — she’s a Compton native like Kendrick, and briefly dated Drake in 2011.
According to People, the tennis star — who is now married to tech mogul Alexis Ohanian — inspired Drake to write his 2016 single “Too Good,” which includes the lyrics: “I’m way too good to you, you take my love for granted.”
The Shade Room posted part of the halftime show on Instagram, including Serena’s cameo, and social media users filled the comments section.

Another person joked about Drake’s recent legal filings, claiming he was defamed in the song.
“Serena waited for this day … Drake is gonna sue everybody,” the person wrote.
“The cameraman had one job and it was done perfectly. Capture the exes crip walk,” someone else chimed in.
“Go Serena! Love to see Black men standing up for a Black woman,” another fan added.
However, not everyone liked or agreed with the tennis icon being onstage.
“Hunni you’re married with children move on. Ain’t no way I’d be this pressed over my ex smdh this was embarrassing,” one person criticized.
Kendrick’s performance of “Not Like Us” trended on social media throughout Sunday night.
The rapper self-censored his “pedophile” line, but kept the “A minor” verse — [full lyrics here] — causing the crowd in the New Orleans stadium to erupt in excitement and chant along.
